The Hamilton & Waikato Region is situated in the North Island of New Zealand.
The region’s main city of Hamilton provides an ideal gateway to the wider region and the visitor hotspots of the Central North Island with domestic flights to most New Zealand destinations and excellent road links.
Situated in the heart of the North Island the diverse Hamilton & Waikato region encompasses New Zealand’s fourth largest city, the country’s longest river, Hobbiton Movie Set, and the world famous Waitomo Caves with its glowworms and adventure tourism activities. Well-known for its nature-based tourism, underground adventure and off-the-beaten track experiences the Hamilton & Waikato region offers something for every traveler, from the stunning black sand surf beaches of Raglan to Hamilton’s vibrant café scene and the rolling hills and majestic forests that shape the landscape.
Accommodation & Dining
The Hamilton & Waikato region has a variety of hotels in the heart of the CBD that are a short drive from Waikato University. Many offer a contemporary aesthetic with on-site restaurants and bars. Alternatively, the Hamilton Garden Inn provides a place to stay that is more central to the university and is a 5 minute drive or half hour walk.
Hamilton also has a number of restaurants that shouldn’t be missed out on. Silk restaurant offers a taste of Asia for lunch and dinner. Pop in for a $10 lunch special.
